TIRANA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL is the first and the only international cinema festival in Albania created in 2003.
TIFF has received invitation to become member of the European Coordination of Film Festivals (ECFF), by next September. Consequently, TIFF aims to respect the Code of Ethics deriving from ECFF.
This extraordinary event for Albania takes place under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports and Tirana City-Hall.
The competition program combines short films of all formats and categories, alternated between them, in order to make it more eclectic and exciting.
Tirana International Film Festival is open to well-known artists as well as students, representatives of all schools, contemporary, independent and alternative cinema from throughout the world.
Part of the Festival is also a special program which includes all forms of film production - feature, documentaries and animated films more than 30' length. A particular interest is shown in retrospectives of different authors or countries.
TIFF reserves an important space to the seminars and workshops, which prove necessary for the Albanian filmmakers and young artists.
The free of charge newspaper of TIFF, published both in Albanian and English, will enable a daily briefing with the latest news over the Festival through interviews, photos and programs, as well as will offer hints on the artistic life of the capital of Albania.
A press conference is organized every morning in the premises of one of Tirana's most prestigious hotels where the guests will be accommodated.
The program is completed with an important Talk Show at Night, broadcast by the Public Television, where the journalists, art critics, participants and guests are invited to debate about the Festival.
An international jury will evaluate over 100 shorts, latest international and Albanian productions, that in the last night will announce the winners’ awards and prizes in a gala ceremony broadcast live in TV.
Albania is a solar, enthusiastic and friendly country and besides the “strong competition” TIFF aims at the same time to be a meeting point of cultures, where people of Tirana, the guests and all those who love the short film will have a cinema-language-communication week.
TIFF aims to create in Albania, as well as in the Balkans, a cultural center of worldwide alternative and independent cinema.

Tirana International Film Festival, emerged not occasionally as an idea in Tirana, which, though the Capital of Albania, felt the need of an important film event and, especially,, an international film festival. Its very history speaks of the indispensability of its creation, showing the role and the importance it has among the many similar international festivals in the world.
During five days, the Albanian public watched 81 films, the latest productions in the world cinema, as well as different artistic tendencies, categories and concepts.
It created the opportunity of contact between foreign authors and producers with the Albanian ones aimed at future film co-productions.
It presented to foreigners the chances Albania offers, especially with its human resources.
It made possible that all authors coming from different world countries saw a different Tirana, different from “Tirana-News”, a hospital city, eager to rank among the developed international capitals also for its rich social, economic, artistic, cultural and tourism life.
It showed to the young filmmakers and especially to the students that with a minimal budget (low distribution cost) they can create great values to show in the world.
It raised the awareness of the relevant institutions to
address a particular attention to this film category.
